In the heart of Whitby, pantile-roofed cottages overlook the coming and going of the fishing boats, coasters and luxury yachts in the harbour.

There is always something to see be it fish being landed or a ship leaving port through the town's swing bridge.

To the east side of the harbour at the top of the famous one hundred and ninety-nine steps stands the unique church of St. Mary surrounded by the graveyard of Dracula fame. Close by, the remains of Whitby Abbey are a lasting monument of our history from the time of St.Hilda and Caedmon.

A short drive takes you out to the spectacular North York Moors and the steam railway, or to one of the villages along the coast each with its own charm and character.

The Seacliffe Hotel presents the holidamaker with an opportunity to stay in a quiet residential area whilst being close to the beach, sports facilities, theatre and shops. Despite its prime position on the North Promenade, with sea views from many of its en suite rooms, accommodation is most moderately priced and the Candlelight Restaurant offers a good choice of fresh local seafood, steaks and vegetarian dishes.

In fine weather afternoon tea is served on the patio overlooking the cricket ground with a feature fountain playing in the foreground.
