The western lakes and coastline of Cumbria are the Lake District's hidden gems – a rugged romantic and largely unspoilt setting for Hodgson House one of a select number of properties in the 30 acre grounds of Irton Hall which has its own historic connections to Henry VI and Oliver Cromwell. Wastwater Lake and Miterdale are nearby whilst a trip up Eskdale should take the brave over two high fell passes Hardknott and Wrynose down into Little Langdale and the heart of the Lakes. The coastline is high and wild though St Bees offers more gentle access to its sandy beach and there is plenty of fell walking.
